SAP PI 7.11 – Paving the way to SOA & Process-Driven IT – Part 1 of 2

The latest version of SAP PI, PI 7.11 represents SAP’s commitment into supporting Process- and Service-Oriented Architecture IT strategies for their customers. The German company listened to the developers and architects community and delivered a fully refurbished SOA platform which is now capable to compete side by side with the big guys in the SOA arena.

Process Integration Tools - PI 7.11

PI 7.11 comes packed with long-expected new functionality on several areas such as an enterprise service repository, XML validation, a complete process modeling environment and improved support for open-source standards like Web Services Reliable Messaging (WSRM), WS Security including Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML).

SAP did also a great job by improving and extending the BPM features of the product. For instance the Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) is now better supported by a new Integration Process Type called “Monitoring Process”, which monitors events from different endpoints including non-SAP applications. Unfortunately, the BAM functionality is not based on Complex Event Processing (CEP) which complicates the support of high-volume event processing. The overall performance of the ccBPM layer shows also positive performance improvements.

It is my intention to blog forthcoming weeks new insights and I will underline the different aspects of the new functionality and improvements available from SAP PI 7.11 onwards.

We will be covering the following areas of PI:

1 > SAP PI Before and After 7.11

2 > Interesting new features

3 > The rationals to migrate/upgrade to the PI7.11

4 > Areas that still need to improve

5 > Wraping up

End of part 1.

Meet you next time on the path to integration!
